Our Angry Seagull Goals
| |
The purpose in creating the Angry Seagull Adventure Race has been to provide a highly
accessible overnight adventure race - a race that is conveniently priced, conveniently
located, and conveniently timed.   This race is for all the family and friends who have ever
said "That sounds amazing!   I'd love to try one of those races, but…"
If you've ever thought about trying an overnight race, then this is the race for you!
The Angry Seagull is also designed to bridge the current gap in Ontario between five to
twelve hour sprint races and the more remote 36-hour to 4-day long races.
If you've raced some short races and are looking for a new challenge..
the Angry Seagull is for you!
Our biggest Angry Seagull goal is to grow the sport of adventure racing, both in terms
of participation and in recognition of the sport. I believe adventure racing provides an
exceptional opportunity for people to challenge themselves and to exceed their
pre-conceived notions of their physical and mental limitations.
For anyone interested in challenging themselves in a fun, active, outdoor event,
the Angry Seagull is for you!

Jay Hahn, Angry Seagull Creator

In 2002, I started adventure racing with a 36-hour Raid the North race.
After 29 sore & tired hours of racing, we finished in 9th place and I was
hooked on the challenge, exploration and teamwork of adventure
racing!   Since that race, I've done a variety of adventure races, from
16-hours to 3-days long, including a top ten finish in the 3-day Michigan
Coast-to-Coast race.   In August 2006, I was inspired by Velocity AR's
24-hour Red Mud Race to provide a similar race in Southern Ontario.
The Angry Seagull Adventure Race was hatched!
(terrible pun, I know)
Away from adventure racing, I work full-time managing swimming pools
and teaching first aid & lifeguard courses on the side.

Huge thanks to all of the friends, teammates and others in the AR community who have
contributed their support, advice, ideas and assistance to the creation of this race.
Their assistance in course scouting, race logistics, website contributions, and commitment
to several race day roles has been invaluable in making the Angry Seagull Adventure Race
what we all hope will be an exceptional event!

Why the name "Angry Seagull"?? |
| |
That is a story for another time.
You'll have to come out to the event to see if you can get the story out of me then.
RAAAWWQK!!
